AUBURN – Robert “Red” Bauer, 77, of Wales, died Thursday, Nov. 29, at the Hospice House in Auburn.

He was born on Sept. 5, 1930, in Grand Rapids, Mich., the son of Robert R. and Irene B. Bauer. He attended Howe Military School in Howe, Ind., and served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1945 to 1955.

Red was a member of Local 783 Pipefitters and Welders Union, past patron of Boynton Chapter 88 Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of Masonic Lodge 110 of Monmouth.

His favorite interests were ocean fishing, motorcycling, racing ice cars and all types of auto racing.

His last major accomplishment at the age of 74, was completing the Four Corner Motorcycle Tour of the United States in 11 days.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Lucille of Wales; children, Karen Bauer of Wales, Sue Hallowell of Leeds and Reg Bauer of Wales; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Audrey, in 1981.
