This time, the Lewiston Maineiacs played well enough to win.

But they didn’t.

The Acadie-Bathurst Titan came from behind three times Saturday night, and Cameron Critchlow provided the final blow with a goal past Peter Delmas with 2:55 to play to cap the Titan’s 5-4 win over the visiting Maineiacs.

“We played well enough to win this game,” Maineiacs’ coach Ed Harding said. “You can’t ask for much more on the road playing Bathurst, which is a real good hockey team.”

Harding had little to say about the play of his forwards, saying only that he thought they played well enough to win.

Delmas, however, bore the brunt of the criticism.

“The goaltending changed things,” Harding said. “Our goaltender was not very good. Maybe he should have been chased earlier. Their goaltender (Antoine Tardif) was really bad early, and we chased him, and the other guy (Nicolas Champion) hung in there pretty well.”

Lewiston jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals from Matt Bourdeau – his first in the QMJHL – and Chris Tutalo. Tomas Svoboda and Tomy Joly tied things right up though, and the teams yo-yoed from there.

Lewiston finished the first ahead 3-2 on a Billy Lacasse goal, but Mathieu Perreault tied things for the Titan early in the second.

Jakub Bundil made it 4-3 Lewiston less than two minutes later, and that lead held into the third period.

“All the guys played a good game,” Harding said. “I’m very happy with the way we played, and I thought we deserved to win this hockey game.”

Then, at 5:46 of the final frame, Joly struck again to even things up.

Late in the period, Critchlow found a loose puck beside Delmas and rammed it home to put the game away.

By that point, Lewiston was out of gas after having gone the distance Friday.

“We watched Shawinigan do it in their second game (Saturday),” Harding said. “That’s what happens. These guys aren’t machines. But we battled real hard, and we played a good, solid game, and Peter was not too solid in net.”

The Maineiacs finish off their three-games-in-three-nights swing today in Bathurst.
