Augusta – Dorothy G. Murray, 97, a resident of the Augusta Rehabilitation Center, Augusta, died on Saturday, Dec. 1, in Augusta.
She was born on June 19, 1910, in Bridgton, the daughter of George and Grace Wilkinson Berry. She attended schools in Westbrook and Gray and was also a graduate of Sheppard-Gill Nursing School in Boston, Mass. She worked as an LPN in the Boston area for 32 years doing private-duty nursing. In 1928, she married Carroll G. Jones, who passed away in 1991.
She was a seventh-degree member of the grange, and had been treasurer of the benevolent branch of Auburn and also a member of the Morning Glory branch in Leeds. She was a member of the first Auburn Seniors, the Robin Dow Seniors and a member of the Young at Heart of the Court Street Church in Auburn. She was also a member of the church and the Ladies Circle Society. She had worked as a fancy stitcher at B.E. Cole in Norway and as a clerk at the Hebron Post Office. In 1951, she moved to Massachusetts. While living in Massachusetts, she worked as a clerk at Bell Shop in Boston, as a bookkeeper at Surgeons and Physicians in Boston and then at New England Deaconess Hospital for three years. She returned to Maine in 1973, and worked at the Lamp Nursing Home in Lisbon, the Good Sheppard in Lewiston, the Andrews Nursing Home in South Paris and the Auburn Nursing Home in Auburn.
Dorothy retired from nursing in 1983. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading and dancing.
She is survived by a daughter, Dorothy G. Flint of Farmingdale; three grandchildren, Elinor M. Blalock, Susan G. White and Robert E. Bonney; five great-grandchildren, Gwendolyn McFarlane, Rodney King Jr., Jennifer Methot, Bethany White and Amber White; four great-great-grandchildren, Aiden Methot, Autumn Rose Trepanier, Justin McFarlane and Michael King.
She was predeceased by three brothers; three sisters; and one grandson.
