NORTH MONMOUTH – Laurence P. Stanley, 81, of Route 202, died Nov. 30, at his home, after a long battle with cancer.
He was born in Jay on Sept. 23, 1926, the son of Fred and Evelyn (Cook) Stanley. He attended schools in Jay and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
After his military service, he had worked at Bass Shoe in Wilton for 22 years as a sewer. He later worked as a boiler operator at Carleton Woolen Mill in Winthrop, until his retirement.
He loved to go antiquing. He enjoyed going to yard sales, buying, repairing and selling what he had fixed. He owned and operated Stanley’s Stuff in North Monmouth.
In his earlier years, he and his family enjoyed camping. He was a former member of the Monmouth Grange and the Oddfellows Lodge in Wilton.
He is survived by two sons, Douglas Stanley and his wife, Linda, of Buxton and Brent Stanley and his wife, Debbie, of Wilton; his significant other, Hilda Pelletier, of North Monmouth; seven grandchildren, Joseph Stanley, Sophia Stanley, Isaac Stanley, Nicholas Stanley, Adam Stanley, Scott Woods and Chad Woods; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Pauline in 1995; a daughter, Eunice Decker in 2005; and seven siblings.
