JAY – High school Principal John Robinson has tendered his resignation effective after the school year ends.

Robinson was hired in May 2005 and given a contract from July 1 of that year to expire June 30, 2008.

He began his leadership role at the high school taking over for retiring Principal Peter Brown.

Robinson has 36 years in education, starting as teacher in a Massachusetts boarding school and trying different administrative roles including superintendent before he arrived in Jay from his position of principal of Penquis Valley High School in Milo.

Robinson and his wife, Maggie, have four children and moved from Milo to Farmington, where a daughter and a new grandchild lives.

Superintendent Robert Wall said the school committee will tell him what they want to do concerning replacing Robinson when the board meets at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, at Jay Middle School.

Robinson said he has no plans after he leaves the school system except to retire.

The school consolidation process will be interesting, Robinson said, and he expects to watch from the sidelines.
