AUBURN – A worship service, based on the church’s reconstruction project in New Orleans, will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, at the First Universalist Church of Auburn, 169 Pleasant St.

Through words and music, the service will evoke the ideas and emotions experienced in an area still devastated by Hurricane Katrina. For more information, call 783-0461.

The church raised more than $12,000 to fund the volunteer trip through concerts and donations. Twenty-eight members and friends of the church gathered in New Orleans over Thanksgiving week to help with rebuilding efforts.

Group members came primarily from the UU churches in Maine and included students from Tulane, University of Maine at Augusta, University of Maine at Farmington, Hebron Academy, Winthrop High School and Edward Little High School.

The group worked on reconstruction, painting and renovation projects for the Welfare Rights Organization of New Orleans and for LowerNine.org. Project sites were located near the city center and in the Lower Ninth Ward.
