DAMARISCOTTA – Raymond W. Sanborn, 80, of the Alexander-Reed Road, Richmond, died Nov. 26, at Miles Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

He was born in South Portland on Dec. 15, 1926, the son of Elmer Sanborn and Lida (Rust) Sanborn. He was raised and attended schools in South Portland.

He proudly joined the Navy in 1945 to serve and protect the country he loved during World War II. He was employed as an electrician with IBEW Local 567 until he retired.

He married the love of his life Aug. 23, 1958 in Portland. They later moved to Gray, where they raised their six daughters. His work later took them to Sheridan, Wyo., where they lived for many years until returning to Maine to retire.

He loved watching and talking about sports of all types. The Red Sox were his favorite team. He found great pleasure in riding his lawn tractor, playing cribbage and competing in trivia questions with his wife. What he loved the most was his family.

He will sadly be missed by his seven surviving daughters, Sharon Dobbins, Sheril Lillard, Kaye Bouchard, Cindy Sanborn, Lori Wood, Cecile Greenman and Rae Hoskins; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife, Cecile (Bilter) Sanborn, who unexpectedly passed away Nov. 2.
