NEWRY – In an effort to raise money for local charities and help people get identification tags on their dogs, Sunday River is offering ski passes for dogs.

“New passes designed specifically for Fido are on sale at the season pass office at the South Ridge Base Lodge,” according to a news release issued Friday.

The passes cost $20 and can’t really be used to take the dog on the resort’s slopes, but does provide “all the benefits of dog identification including name and phone number along with a photo.”

“Sunday River is not responsible if Fido eats his or her season pass ID tag,” the release stated.

All proceeds will go toward upgrading Bethel’s Davis Park Playground. A new charity will be selected every six months, the release said.

The doggie season pass ID tags will be available for purchase throughout the year.

“We’re thrilled at the idea,” said Joyce Pereira of the nonprofit Davis Park Rehabilitation Committee. “Hopefully people will like the idea of getting their pooch a pass for a good cause. Maybe we’ll see them up and down Main Street here in Bethel all the way into Boston.”
