The opinion section of the Dec. 2 Sun Journal had no real meat to it.

I enjoy local people’s opinions, and individuals should speak out. A person who cuts down the Democrats has a right to an opinion. He or she had the courage to write it. I respect that, but don’t agree 90 percent of the time.

I understand that people who hate everything that liberals (or conservatives) stand for are people who get their opinions from people such as Michael Savage, Rush Limbaugh, Shawn Hannity, Air America, etc. There is no gray area with that type of person. They get paid for being super-liberal or conservative.

It is the same as when people want to get promoted at a place of business – they have to be for the company 100 percent or be out. If bosses say the table is red, yet you know it is black, you say it is red.

I know a person who often comes to my shop for business, and I can tell when he has listened to Savage – he is so wound up, I am scared he will have a heart attack. I just keep a smile on my face, joke and try to calm him down.

People like him are the salt of the earth and I love them, but they are being used by the super-conservatives and liberals to fuel the hate, and that is not good for this country.
