AUGUSTA – Duncan Plummer Hutchinson, 84, of Weld, died Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Maine Veterans’ Home, Augusta, with family at his side.
He was born June 8, 1923, in Weld, a son of Linwood E. and Christie Edna (Plummer) Hutchinson. He recieved his education in Weld schools and graduated from Belgrade High School in 1942. In 1951, he married Claire Etta Meservey. She died on Feb. 18, 1996.
He later married Shirley Bridges of Winthrop.
He was a veteran, having served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He retired in 1983 as a master sergeant.
He was a 54-year member of Masonic Lodge 99 of Mt. Vernon and attended the Weld Lodge. He was a private pilot and worked at Jack’s Flying Service and Currier’s Flying Service out of Greenville, piloting scenic flights as well as working on fire patrol. He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol, the Phillips Aero Club and was a former commander of the Bangor Squadron. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fly fishing, hunting, snowmobiling and had been a guide for King and Bartlett. He traveled around the world with his family, whom he dearly loved.
Suvivors include his wife, Shirley of Winthrop; two sons, Duncan Paul Hutchinson and his wife, Sandy, of Carmel and Linwood A. “Woody” Hutchinson and his wife, Karen, of Hermon; two daughters, Deborah Wark and her husband, Larry, of Plymouth and Diane Hutchinson-Fontane and her husband, Wayne, of Grafton, Mass.; two sisters, Barbara York and her husband, Harry, of Belgrade and Marilyn Plum of Massachusetts; a sister-in-law, Arlene Hutchinson of Belgrade; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a brother, Armand Hutchinson.
