FAIRFIELD (AP) – Investigators say the man who died in a Fairfield house fire committed suicide after setting his home ablaze.
An autopsy by the Maine Medical Examiner’s Office says the man died of a gunshot wound to the head. Officials are awaiting DNA analysis to establish a positive identification, but fire investigators say they believe it’s 55-year-old Steven Edwards, who lived in the house.
His body was found on a rear porch where investigators say the fire started from a flammable liquid. The body was found near five guns, one of which Edwards used to shoot himself.
The fire was discovered Friday afternoon.
