I must disagree with Amelia Harmon (Nov. 23) in her comments about the Plum Creek plan for the Greenville area. She mentions people should support the Maine Audubon and Natural Resources Council of Maine’s alternatives, but she fails to mention the other 14 or more groups that support the Plum Creek plan. To name a few: Maine Tourism, Somerset and Piscataquis County Economic Development Council, Sportsmen’s Alliance of Maine, Maine State Chamber of Commerce, and the Piscataquis County Commission.

Harmon also says that probably 75,000 more people will visit the Moosehead area if the “plan” gets okayed. Does anyone think those extra people just might leave a little money in that area? Could their economy not use the extra money? There are other alternatives – how about “Keep out,” or “No tresspassing!”

One thing everyone must remember – Plum Creek owns the land, so wanting to develop just 5 percent of their land is not asking too much. And why should people from out of the area decide what’s best for the folks that live there year ’round?

People may visit that area two or three times a year, but what about the folks who are there 365 days a year?

But the most important thing to remember is that it is their land, and if they are trying to “share” it with the public, we should be very thankful. It doesn’t have to be that way!
