DIXFIELD – Assessor John O’Donnell wants to sit down with selectmen to discuss how to assess the personal property at Irving Forest Products.

O’Donnell has been conducting a total revaluation of all properties in town. Irving is the town’s biggest employer and owns the most personal property.

Town Manager Tom Richmond said the forest products company was assessed at $16 million for personal property last year when the town was valued at 70 percent.

“We need to come up with a system to reach the value,” Richmond said.

He said the goal of the revaluation is to bring all properties up to 100 percent.

“The reval gets complicated. We can’t take everything up to 100 percent (in one year),” said Richmond. “Irving will make a difference in the tax commitment.”

The joint meeting of selectmen and O’Donnell will likely take place in early January.

Also at Monday’s selectmen’s meeting, Richmond said three part-time people have been hired to operate the skating rink at McGouldrick Park. Money raised from the harvest of trees at the site will be used to pay operators and keep the rink open.

Richmond said with recent cold weather, the rink is already open for the season. It can be used until 9 p.m. daily.

Because the date of the next regularly scheduled board meeting falls on Christmas Eve, selectmen will meet at 5 p.m. Dec. 17.
