AUBURN – A collection of 44 classic cameras will be on display in the first-floor lobby at City Hall through the end of December.
The collection, owned by Steve Carlson of Lewiston, features a broad range of Kodak cameras manufactured from 1915 to 1974. The oldest camera in the group is a Folding Pocket, Model C5, which was manufactured from 1904 to 1915.
Also in the collection is the 50th Anniversary Box Camera, which was manufactured in 1930 by Kodak to honor the 50th anniversary of the Eastman Kodak Co.
The company gave away 550,000 cameras that year, one to every 12-year-old child in the United States and Canada.
Carlson has been collecting and restoring cameras for more than 30 years. He is a photographer and a photography teacher for Auburn Adult and Community Education. He enjoys talking about cameras with anyone who has questions and can provide appraisals for antique cameras. He can be contacted at [email protected].
Auburn Hall is open from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday and from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.
