SOUTH PARIS – Maurice “Mo” Reginald Thibault, 81, of Rangeley, died early Thursday, Dec. 13, at the Maine Veterans’ Home, where he had resided for the last two years.
He was born Nov. 16, 1926, in Auburn, the son of Joseph and Maine (Guilbeault) Thibault and graduated from Portland High School. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served for two years.
After his discharge from the Navy, he attended New England Institute of Anataomy and Embalming in Boston. Upon his graduation, he served his funeral service apprenticeship at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Homes in Augusta and Hallowell, and later owned and operated Thibault Funeral Home in Rangeley for more than 40 years with his wife Marilyn “Mickey” Thibault. He also operated the Rangeley Ambulance Service for many years and worked at DC Morton and Sons in Rangeley for 26 years.
He was a member of Kemankeag Masonic Lodge 213 of Rangeley, York Rites, and the Valley of Portland. He was past president of the Western Mountain Shrine Club, the Rangeley Snowmobile Club, and the Rangeley Republican Town Committee. He was a member of the Rangeley American Legion, served as a meals on wheels driver, and was an active communicant of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Rangeley.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn “Mickey” of Rangeley; two sons, David and his wife, Patricia, of Lake Mary, Fla., and Dennis and his wife, Anne, of Mechanic Falls; a daughter, Denise Mercier and her husband, William, of Rangeley; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
