CARRABASSETT VALLEY – Sugarloaf will offer a full calendar of events for the whole family over the holiday week, including a double header comedy night, the Carry the Torch for a Cure torchlight parade, fireworks, and a New Year’s party for the family.
Skiers will light up the night sky Friday, Dec. 28, as they head down the mountain carrying torches to raise money for the Martha B. Webber Breast Cancer Center. Skiers and riders who are at least 18 years old and make a minimum contribution of $60 are invited to be torchbearers. A fireworks display will commence as torchbearers reach the base area.
Comedy performances by Maine humorist Tim Sample and the Maine Hysterical Society will follow the fireworks. The Hysterical Society will open the show at 6:30 p.m., with Sample taking the stage at 8 p.m. on Sugarloaf’s main stage in the King Pine Room. The show is open to all ages. Tickets are $6 for the first show, $10 for the second, or $13 for both. Tickets are available at guest services, or by calling 1-800-THE-LOAF.
The week will conclude with a family New Year’s Eve party in the base lodge, featuring games, live music, contra dancing and a fireworks show. Now in its seventh year, this year’s New Year’s Eve party will include live music by Frigate and, for the first time, contra dancing with caller Chrissy Fowler. There will be games throughout the night, including word scrambles, memory games and a giant game of Scrabble. The evening will conclude with fireworks.
