LEWISTON – Normand A. Fontaine, 73, of 282 Russell St., Lewiston, died unexpectedly as a result of a long illness on Friday, Dec. 14, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.

He was born in Lewiston on March 9, 1934, the son of Lorenzo and Yvonne (Roy) Fontaine and had been a resident of this community all of his life.

He was educated in Lewiston schools and attended Lewiston High School.

He was employed as a foreman in the local textile industry for many years and retired from Pioneer Plastics in 1996.

He was a member of Holy Family Church.

He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing and spending time at the family camp, The Big Bear Inn, in Rangeley. He also liked attending the local high school and Lewiston Maineiacs hockey games. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, the former Priscille J. Gastonguay, whom he married on May 14, 1955 of Lewiston; two daughters, Doris Boyle and her husband, Raymond, of Lewiston and Lorraine Fontaine and her husband, Stephen, of Lewiston; one brother and best friend, Robert Fontaine of Lewiston; three sisters, Yvette Latuscha of Lewiston, Rita Beaudoin of Lewiston and Joanne Baril and her husband, Pierre, of West Bristol, Conn.; four grandchildren, Amanda Hammond and her husband, Tyler, of Lewiston, Stephanie Baillargeon and her husband, Christopher, of Lewiston, Shana Fontaine of Turner and her fiancé, Matthew Simpson and Rebecca Boyle and her fiancé, Brandon Leclair, of Lewiston; three great-grandchildren, Gavin Baillargeon, Ashton Hammond and Mason Fontaine Simpson.

He was predeceased by his son, Donald Fontaine.
