FARMINGTON – A judge reduced bail for a Chesterville man accused of attacking a college student Sunday night on campus to $10,000 cash bail or $250,000 worth of property Friday.
Franklin County Superior Court Justice Joseph Jabar also banned Caleb M. Hupper, 18, from going on the University of Maine at Farmington campus and from having any contact with the victim.
Hupper was arrested Wednesday by Farmington police and is facing charges of robbery and aggravated assault in connection with attempting to take a wallet from an 18-year-old UMF student and kicking and punching him at the corner of High and Lincoln streets in Farmington, according to police. The college student, from Massachusetts, was taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington and was treated for his injuries, including a cut above the eye.
Hupper had been held on $25,000 cash bail since Wednesday until his Friday appearance in court.
His attorney, Woody Hanstein, reserved the right to revisit bail in the future.
