LEWISTON – An advocacy group for the homeless will hold a candlelight vigil from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, at Veterans Memorial Park.
The vigil, hosted by The Lewiston/Auburn Alliance for the Homeless, is part of the nationwide observance of National Homeless Memorial Day, held annually on the winter solstice by homeless advocates around the nation.
The vigil will be held in the park at the Lewiston entrance to Longley Bridge on Main Street. A reception with light refreshments will follow at the New Beginnings outreach program at 245 Lisbon St.
The Lewiston/Auburn Alliance for the Homeless, a group of local service providers, volunteers and city representatives, is working to create a 10-year plan to end homelessness in the Lewiston-Auburn area. LASH meets the first Wednesday of the month and works throughout the year to share information and to advocate for better services for the homeless.
