LEWISTON – Carmen G. Cox, 90, a longtime resident of New Street, North Monmouth, died Friday morning, Dec. 14, at Montello Manor in Lewiston following a long illness.
She was born in Mexico City, Mexico, on July 16, 1917, the daughter of Estevan and Simona (Carmona) Gutierrez and was educated in the schools of Mexico.
On June 1, 1947, she married Richard Stephen Cox Sr., who died on June 5, 2005. She was a homemaker all of her life. She took great pride in her home, having sewed her own curtains and many other household items by hand.
She was a member of the Alfred W. Maxwell American Legion Post 40, of Winthrop. She was a longtime active and faithful member of the North Monmouth Community Church, where she taught Sunday school, Bible school and was a member of the choir.
She is survived by a son, Richard S. Cox Jr. and his wife, Joyce E., of Lewiston; a brother, Teddy Gutierrez of Reawley, Calif.; and a sister, Socorro McPherson of Lake San Marcos, Calif.; four grandchildren, Stephen W. Cox, Emily M. Schools, Stephenie J. Jarvis and Jason Cox; four great-grandchildren, twins Ryan and Robbie Hollis, Jasmine S. Cox and Liviana Biegler; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by several brothers and sisters.
