FARMINGTON – Susan Loughrey, MA, CCC-SLP, has been appointed as a speech-language pathologist at Franklin Memorial Hospital providing services for inpatients.

Speech-language pathology services optimize individuals’ ability to communicate and/or swallow in natural environments to improve their quality of life. Loughrey works with patients of all ages to improve speech, language, and cognition and memory skills. She also works with children and adults to help them swallow safely. One of her priorities is conducting modified barium swallow studies for those with feeding issues.

Before joining Franklin Memorial Hospital, Loughrey was a clinician for five years at Home Health Visiting Nurses of Southern Maine, providing speech and language services, and treatment for feeding and swallowing problems in infants and toddlers as well as adults.

Loughrey completed a yearlong clinical Fellowship Year at Crotched MountainRehabilitation Center in New Hampshire after receiving her master’s degree in speech-language pathology from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Prior to that she received her bachelor’s degree in hearing and speech sciences from the University of Florida in Gainesville. She is certified by the American Speech Language and Hearing Association and licensed by the state.

Loughrey is the parent of two grown daughters and is the grandmother of four. She is building a home in Turner where she expects to move soon.
