AUBURN – Aliette A. Capano, 90, of 56 Marion Drive in Auburn, passed away Sunday, Dec. 16, at her home with family at her side.
She was born in Lewiston May 13, 1917, a daughter of Leon and Catherine (Dufour) Auclair. She was educated in Auburn schools and remained a lifelong resident of this community.
On Feb. 13, 1943, she married Vincent Capano in San Luis Obispo, Calif., where he was stationed while serving in the military. They then returned to Maine shortly thereafter to raise their family. He predeceased her on March 30, 1991.
She was employed many years in shoe manufacturing and worked as a fancy stitcher until her retirement. She was a member of St. Louis Church and among her favorite enjoyments were quilting, sewing, doing puzzles, playing cards and knitting. She also loved to travel, take day trips and go out to eat. As she and Vincent raised their children, they, as a family, enjoyed spending more than 20 summers at their family camp at Taylor Pond.
She leaves two daughters, Frances Blanchette and husband, Bob, of Lewiston and Martha Capano of Auburn; two sons, Daniel Capano of Naples and John Capano and wife Giana, of Auburn; 10 grandchildren, Stephanie Hatcher, Christen Faulkner, Michael, Andrea, Matthew, Elizabeth and Anthony Capano, Jennifer Wells, James Blanchette and Jill King; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Jones of Lewiston; a brother, Armand Auclair of Manchester, N.H.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Linda Capano; a sister, Rita Wasielak; two brothers, Ray and Conrad Auclair’ and her parents.
The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude and thanks to home health aides Angela and Gail, her nurse Lois, and the entire staff of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice.
