RUMFORD – Francis E. Scott, 78, of Spruce Street in Rumford, died Sunday, Dec. 16, at Rumford Hospital with his loving family at his side.

He was born on June 28, 1929, in Mexico, a son of James H. and Mary E. (Crawford) Scott.

He attended Mexico schools, and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

On June 14, 1952, he married Marjorie Merchant and they raised 10 children together.

He was a self-employed logger all of his life, and enjoyed raising Black Angus cattle as a hobby. He was a communicant of St. Athanasius-St. John Catholic church. He enjoyed playing the guitar, and singing; but especially loved spending time with his family.

He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marjorie E. Scott of Rumford; eight children, William F. Scott and wife, Valerie, of Anthony, Texas, Raymond D. Scott of Kansas City, Mo., Allen J. Scott of Mexico, Robert C. Scott and wife, Mitzi, of Peru, Sue Ann Ward and husband, Rodney, of Warren, Mass., Lawrence P. Scott and wife, Janice, of Farmington, Kenneth J. Scott of Rumford and Ann F. Blood and husband, Skip, of Avon; two sisters, Beverly Janace and husband, John, of Scarborough and Marion LaBrecque and husband, Al, of Florida; two brothers, George Scott and wife, Celia, of Dixfield and Elwin Scott and wife, Verna, of Yarmouth; 23 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; two sons, Timothy A. Scott and Gary L. Scott; two brothers, Reggie Scott and Willie Scott; and a sister, Lena Hill.
