LEWISTON – Kenneth G. Lemke, 87, of Lisbon Falls died Sunday, Dec. 16, at Marshwood Nursing Home.
He was born in Lisbon Falls Nov. 20, 1920, the son of Walter Paul and Mabel Gatchell Lemke. He was educated in Lisbon Falls schools and graduated from Lisbon Falls High School, Class of 1939.
After high school, he served his country in the U.S. Army from 1942 through 1945. On June 2, 1946, he married the love of his life, the former Erline Kneeland of Lincoln. He was employed locally in area textile mills including the Worumbo Mill and Farnsworth mill and he retired from Lisbon Mills in 1982.
He was a member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church in Lisbon Falls. He was also a member of the Nelson-Conley American Legion Post 66 of Lisbon since 1946, where he served as past commander in 1949. He was also past vice commander of the Androscoggin County American Legion. He was a member of the Ancient York Lodge 155 of Lisbon Falls, the Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Lewiston/Auburn, the Consistory of Portland and the Kora Temple of Lewiston. He was an avid sports fan having followed the Atlanta Braves, and he also enjoyed playing cards with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Erline Lemke of Lisbon Falls; his two daughters, Carole Crosskill and her husband, Michael, of Lisbon Falls and Gloria Lemke of Lisbon Falls; his son, Gordon and his wife, Brenda Lemke, of Campton N.H.; four grandchildren, Chad and his wife, Marcey Crosskill, of Lisbon, Corey and her husband, Matt Bedell, of Lisbon and Chelsea and Garrett Lemke, both of Meredith, N.H.; his four great-grandchildren, Joshua, Michaela and Kyle Bedell and Sydney Crosskill; and three stepgreat-grandchildren, Kelsey Linnell and Austin and Makenzey Bedford.
He was predeceased by his parents; and brother, George Lemke in 1984.
The family wishes to thank AHCH and the staff at Marshwood for their care with special thanks to his two Sarahs for their constant loving care, the laughs and conversations: to Cathy, the first love, for her continued love and support, the hair care and nail shows; to Pam for her humor and honesty and the always appreciated homemade ice water; to Greg, because “he’s such a good boy” and to Lorraine for the quiet friendship, coffee and ice cream. We are forever grateful to you all for all the love and support you have given to our family.
