LEWISTON – Normand L. St. Marie, 73, of 40 Homefield St., Lewiston, passed away Saturday, Dec. 15, at Central Maine Medical Center, after a long illness. His loving family surrounded him.
He was born in Lewiston on March 27, 1934, the son of Albert J. and Maine A. Bergeron St. Marie. He was educated locally, and graduated from St. Dominic Regional High School in 1953. He served with the HQ Co, 501st Communication Reconnaissance Group of the U.S. Army in the Korean War.
After serving, he married his high school sweetheart, the former Jeannine A. Robert on April 28, 1956, and they made their home together in Lewiston for 51 years. He worked as a self-employed finish carpenter for many years, later retiring due to ill health from Hebert Construction Co. in 1991.
Sonny, as he was known, was an accomplished wine maker, enjoyed cooking, gardening, fishing and loved putting his carpentry skills to work doing crafts and repairs around his home. He also enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports.
A member of Holy Family Parish and the American Legion, he is survived by his wife of Lewiston; three sons, Donald of Lewiston, David and wife, LeeAnn, of Rangeley and Daniel of Roslindale, Mass.; two daughters, Pamela and husband, Brian Kay, of Lewiston and Elaine LeBlanc and fiancé, Daniel Levasseur, of Lewiston; four sisters, Annette Gosselin of Lewiston, Juliette Roberge of Lewiston, Therese Bergeron of Auburn and Pauline Dugal of Poland; a sister-in-law, Gladys St. Marie of Lewiston; seven grandchildren, Nathan Kay, Sarah Kay, Amy LeBlanc, Kevin LeBlanc, Savannah White, Roy White Jr. and Madison St. Marie.
Besides his parents, a brother, Roland; and a sister, Germaine Roberge, predeceased him.
