Summer sampler
AUGUSTA – Old Fort Western will host a Christmas vacation week summer apprentice program sampler from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, in the fort’s learning gallery, City Hall, 16 Cony St.
The purpose is to familiarize potential participants and their family members with the fort’s summer apprentice program, which provides an opportunity for children between the ages of 8 and 12 to experience, in costume, aspects of everyday life in the 18th century.
People attending the sampler will have an opportunity to participate in some of the activities common to the program. Refreshments will be served. Registrations for the 2008 season will be taken. Gift certificates for apprentices will be for sale.

Society elects
AUBURN – The Maine Franco-American Genealogical Society, at its general membership meeting, elected the following officers: president, Norm Angers; vice president, Roger Dufresne; treasurer, Lucille Langelier; recording secretary, Jane Fogg; correspondence secretary, Susan Beaulieu; board members, Arthur Allard, Joyce Campbell and Robert Chenard.
Continuing on the board are Mark Arnoldy and Norm Morin. Ron DeBlois was appointed as library director and Norm Cote as Webmaster.

Seeking artists
AUGUSTA – The Maine Arts Commission is calling artists statewide to submit proposals for the design, execution and installation of artwork at the New Peninsula CSD School in Hancock County. Deadline for submission of preliminary materials is a postmarked date of Feb. 28.
There is approximately $45,000 in Percent for Art funds available for the project. The new building should begin construction in spring of 2008.
All professional Maine artists may apply with the exception of artists who are employees of the Peninsula CSD school district. Artists can find the full prospectus and site plans by searching either the opportunities directory or press release section of MaineArts.com.
