AUBURN – Several men worked to get as many monuments and stones in place as possible at Briggs Cemetery, Turner Street, before winter recently.
They had volunteered to help Scout Daniel Poulin work on his Eagle Scout project of cleaning up the cemetery.
About 81 percent of the cemetery has been refurbished and holes filled by the Scouts. In the spring Murphy and Son Monument will return to put the stones in place, and Poulin and Scout members will return to cut brush, clean leaves and fill in around the stones and flags replaced.
Murphy and Son Monument also erected the large veterans monument at Raymond Park in New Auburn. That Scout project resulted in a letter from President George Bush recognizing what the Scouts of American Legion Post 153 had done.
