GORHAM – Drusilla “Dru” Dorothy (Hudson) Armstrong, 84, of Raymond, died peacefully Dec. 18 at the Gorham House.
She was born June 3, 1923, in Westbrook, a daughter of Earl and Lillian (King) Hudson. Dru was a past matron and life member of the Eastern Star in both Maine and Massachusetts. She was well-known for the more than 125 creatively patterned Christmas stockings she knitted for extended family members and new babies in her church.
After her children were grown, she attended clown school, where she developed two clown personalities, “Amazin Grace” and “Butterfly.” She entertained as a clown at many events. During World War II, she was a professional roller skating dance performer for the USO, along with her friend, Marjorie (Huntress) Charleston.
More than anything, she was a wonderful, caring mother, grandmother, sister and great-grandmother. She had an exuberant sense of humor and will be sadly missed.
Surviving are her daughter, Jayne Chandler; two sons, Bradford and Gary Armstrong; two sisters, Roberta Gregoire and Sandra Delcourt; her brother, Robert Hudson; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, (the love of her life) James Armstrong on May 8; three brothers; and two sisters.
