BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) – A nursing home nurse has admitted she stole painkillers from her elderly patient.

Elizabeth Eikenberry was sentenced Monday to six months in jail.

Eikenberry was caught on surveillance cameras drinking liquid oxycodone belonging to an 87-year-old resident of the Ethan Allen Residence in Burlington.

She then diluted the drug with juice, depriving the patient of her pain medication, which caused increased pain and other symptoms, the attorney general’s office said Wednesday.

The 57-year-old Eikenberry must surrender her nursing license during her prison term and probation.

She is also forbidden from working where she has access to regulated drugs, participate in a substance abuse treatment program and undergo random drug testing.
