BRUNSWICK – The Bowdoin International Music Festival seeks talented student musicians ages 13 and older to apply to its 2008 summer program in the following instruments: strings, piano, guitar, harp, woodwinds (bassoon, clarinet, flute, horn, oboe) and composition.

A grant from the Sam L. Cohen Foundation will provide financial assistance to two exemplary student musicians from Maine. The festival also has additional funding for Maine scholarships from its own John M. Dunlap Jr. permanent scholarship fund.

The Bowdoin Festival, which brings teachers and performers from world conservatories, performing groups and orchestras to Maine each summer, has been called “one of the great festivals of the world” by Joseph Polisi, president of the Juilliard School. Students may attend one or both of the three-week sessions from June 21 through Aug. 2.

The Bowdoin Festival also seeks interns for its music office. Interns, one of whom will also be funded by the Cohen Foundation grant, participate in the day-to-day tasks of running a music festival and will learn arts administration skills. The internships are full-time for the duration of the festival.

For application forms and additional information, visit www.bowdoinfestival.org or call 373-1400. The application deadline is Jan. 31.
