AUBURN – Brian W. Foss, 64, passed away peacefully on Dec. 24, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice.
He summered all his life at the family camp on Lake Auburn until 1990 when the property became part of the Auburn Watershed. He was an avid fisherman and boater.
He was born Nov. 27, 1943, the son of Willis A. Foss and Vera Bushee. He graduated from Edward Little High School in 1961 and joined the U.S. Coast Guard. After his years of service, he was employed by the Auburn Water District and the Lovelett Nursing Home of Auburn. For many years, he was a member of the St. Michael’s Episcopal Church of Auburn.
Due to health issues, he became disabled and could often be seen walking with his cane from his Winter Street residence to his favorite place, Gowell’s Market on Hampshire Street, for a cup of coffee with friends. During this time, he became interested in ham radio and was a member of local radio clubs.
He loved sports and personally enjoyed bowling, golf, using his computer and watching NESN for his favorite teams. He was thrilled to be able to see his Red Sox win two World Series championships.
He is survived by his sister, Belinda J. Blake, her husband Peter, and his loving nephew, Christopher, all of Auburn; a niece, Cheryl Morand and her husband, Ron, of Candia, N.H.; as well as a niece, Gail Foss.
He was predeceased by his father and mother; a brother, Bruce; a nephew, Brian L. Foss; and a niece, Belinda Jeanne Foss.
