BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) – A Jan. 22 court date has been set for a 51-year-old Bennington man faced with his sixth drunken driving charge.

David J. Fenton was arraigned in Vermont District Court on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol with two or more prior convictions; illegal possession of prescription drugs and other counts.

Bennington police say they picked Fenton up on Saturday evening after hearing from police in nearby Williamstown, Mass., that a man had been evicted from a bar after becoming combative. The bartender told police the man left in a sport-utility vehicle with Vermont plates and headed up U.S. Route 7 toward Vermont.

He was being held on $5,000 bail.
