LEWISTON – Gertrude J. Jalbert, 93, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Lewiston on Friday, Dec. 21.

Gertrude was born in Lewiston on July 21, 1914, the daughter of Philorum and Alphonsine Fortin Gagnier. She was educated in Lewiston schools and on Aug. 9, 1934, she married Alfred J. Jalbert, owner of Fred’s Barber Shop. They made their home in Auburn where they raised their four children.

Gertrude was a devoted mother and homemaker with a passion for cooking, especially for her family and friends. She was an avid knitter most of her life, and later volunteered her time knitting for the Nifty Knitters of Mercy Hospital in Portland.

She enjoyed golfing at least once a week and had memberships at Fairlawn and Prospect Hill golf courses. She was also a former member of the Patronesses of St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.

She leaves behind her beloved children, sons J. Paul Jalbert of Auburn, Marc Jalbert of Biglerville, Pa., Ronald and wife, Mariette Jalbert of The Villages, Fla.; daughter Delina Rosenblad and husband, Denis, of Scarborough; four grandchildren, John Jalbert, Karen Mitchell, Louise Brogan and Amy Cesar; nine great-grandchildren, Nathan, Amelia and John Jr. (Jack) Jalbert, Jeremy, Brian and Audrey Brogan, and Conlan, Ethan and Brennan Cesar; a sister-in-law, Kathleen Gagnier; and many nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by all.

She was predeceased by her husband of 73 years, Alfred J. Jalbert; two brothers, Roland and Romeo Gagnier; and two sisters, Priscilla Gagnier and Georgette Deschesnes.
