HOLLIS (AP) – Speed and alcohol may have been factors in a Christmas morning highway crash that killed two people and seriously injured two others, police said.
The victims were Samantha Muster, 20, of Butte, Mont., and Tobey Gallant, 36, of Limington, Maine State Police said Wednesday. Both were trapped inside the vehicle after it crashed into a tree and burst into flames along Route 4A shortly before 1 a.m.
Gallant had recently lived in Montana, troopers said, along with Justin Pitts, 25, of Limington, who with 25-year-old Christopher Peterson of Gorham suffered multiple injuries in the crash.
Troopers have yet to determine who was driving the car, but said the 2008 Ford Crown Victoria had been rented by Gallant at the Portland International Jetport.
