Dear Sun Spots: Does anyone remember the little key ring name tags shaped like a Maine license plate and where they can be purchased? I would like to get one for my grandson.
Many thanks to Sun Spots for the great information you provide. – No Name, No Town.
Answer: Many thanks to news assistant Anna Rodrigue, who leaped into locating an answer for you. She noted that according to a Looking Back item this past March, featuring a 50-year-ago item for 1958, the Disabled American Veterans had an Idento-tag program. Each year the DAV sent out the miniature license plates to motorists throughout the nation. The recipient is asked to make whatever donation possible in return. When the keys are lost they may be dropped into any mailbox where they will be sent to the nearest VA office for forwarding.
Sun Spots checked with the DAV’s national headquarters in Cold Spring, Ky., who have confirmed they no longer have this program in place. However, you might consider contacting www.stuffbak.com, at 800-800-8257, e-mail to [email protected] or write to them at 6778 N. 79th Street, Niwot, Colo. 80503. Another option is Key Finders, www.kfikeys.com, 244 Southwest 30th Street, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33315, 800-325-0004.

Dear Sun Spots: Allow me to suggest another response to your advice appearing in the Dec. 20 edition regarding a reader’s problem with a car dealership.
Twenty years ago I volunteered, for a year, as a consumer resolution advocate with a program sponsored by the state Attorney General’s Office. I hope that this effective program still is available. Customer situations with vehicle dealers often were resolved quite amicably and productively. Jim McKenna, an assistant to the attorney then, was in charge of this program, filling a need for customer assistance, rectifying problems with sellers of goods and services.
This would be an excellent resource for resolving buyer-seller problems with your column readers. – Lawrence Merkens, Vassalboro.
Dear Sun Spots: You forgot to mention our phone number in our inquiry seeking yarn donations, used or new and needles. This is for our program, helping the needy and single parents. We donate scarves and mittens with the donated yarn. We may be reached at 784-7196. Please leave us a message if we are not available. Thank you for your time. – No Name, No Town.
