WOODSTOCK – Selectmen have called a special town meeting for 6 p.m. today at the town office in Bryant Pond to act on a shortfall in the highway account.

Town Manager Vern Maxfield told the board that the town needs another $28,000 before he closes the books for 2007.

“The overdraft comes from heavy road damage caused during the heavy rains of last April and July,” he said. “We had to spend unexpected funds on the Farnum/Milton Roads and Curtis Hill to repair storm damage and improve drainage so we won’t have the damage repeated next year, so I decided I would like to take care of the overdraft before we begin finalizing our budget for 2008.

“It’s not always easy to justify using extra money to cover an overdraft,” he said, “but I think we have a lot to show for it with the work that was done on those roads.”
