LEWISTON – College for ME-Androscoggin was the host as approximately 100 businesses, civic and educational leaders gathered for the second annual College for ME-Androscoggin higher education awards luncheon. The awards pay tribute to local business and individuals for their work in, or on behalf of, higher education in Androscoggin County.

Maine Oxy and White Rock Distilleries received corporate leadership awards for their efforts in promoting higher education to their employees and the community. The student advocate awards were presented to Poland Regional High School and the Maine Centers for Women, Work and Community.

Student awards were given to Thuan Ha and Lisa Patton, honored for their inspiring effort, dedication and accomplishment in attaining higher education.

Jan Phillips, chairwoman of College for ME-Androscoggin, believes having so many facets of the community come together for a common objective is inspiring. “Everyone in the room shares a passion to help promote college aspirations and achievement. Thanks the continued support and partnership between business leaders, civic leaders and area educational institutions, we will prevail,” she said.

The goal of College for ME-Androscoggin is to double the number of residents in Androscoggin County who hold a college degree by the year 2015.
