PARIS – A man sentenced earlier this year on a drug-trafficking charge was before a judge again Thursday, answering to charges that he violated his probation.

Joseph Ryan Cox, 22, of 178 Perkins Valley Road in Woodstock, had pleaded no contest in January to Class B trafficking in heroin, and received a suspended four-year prison sentence with three years of probation.

But the court determined Cox violated the terms of his probation by taking $2,300 from his great-grandmother, and by violating other conditions. Justice Carl O. Bradford on Thursday then ordered Cox to serve three years in prison.

Cox also pleaded guilty Thursday to a separate charge of Class C theft and was sentenced to one year concurrent with the three-year sentence.

A charge of Class B burglary was dismissed by Assistant District Attorney Joe O’Connor.
