Lewiston – Therese E. Gardner, 89, of Baird Avenue, died on Friday morning, Dec. 28, at her home after a short illness.
Born in St. Victor P.Q. Canada, on Aug. 11, 1918, the daughter of the late Alfred and Marianne (Gilbert) Poulin.
She was a graduate of Pelletier’s Hair School in 1939.
She spent the next 50 years first working at Cinderella’s Beauty Shop on Park Street and then at Therese’s Beauty Salon until her retirement as a professional hairdresser.
On Oct. 15, 1949, she married Alphonse Gardner at Saints Peter and Paul Church, and he predeceased her on Oct. 1, 1978.
She was a member of Holy Cross Church and Holy Cross Senior Citizens, the Ladies Auxiliary of both Knights of Columbus and the American Legion Post 153, where her husband was past commander. Also a member of Survience Francaise, she was past Snowshoe Club Winter Queen, and for over 17 years, she volunteered at Holy Cross School as a cafeteria aide.
She is survived by one son, Maurice R. Gardner D.P.M. of Lewiston; one daughter, Linda Langley and her husband, Glenn, of Lewiston; two grandchildren, Gregory Langley of Lewiston and Jamie Campbell and her husband, Mike, of North Hollywood, Calif.; one great-grandchild, Kenzie Langley, “her little angel”; a close niece, Jacqueline Lebrun; a godson, Richard Poulin; and many nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by one sister, Bernadette Mathieu; four brothers, Gerard, Lionel, Arthur and John Poulin.
