Alexander Picard-Hooper set a Saint John Sea Dog franchise record Friday night by recording six points in a seven-goal win over Acadie-Bathurst.

He saw the Lewiston Maineiacs in his sights Saturday night, and just kept on chugging.

Picard-Hooper had a pair of goals and two assists and linemate Scott Howes had a goal and three helpers to lift Saint John to a 6-4 win over the Maineiacs in front of 4,239 at Harbour Station.

“We gave up too many shots. We got a little bit away from the game plan there,” Maineiacs’ head coach Ed Harding said.

“The nine days off we had was probably the worst thing for this team.”

Ryan Sparling had a pair of goals in the winning effort, and Chris DiDomenico had three assists.

Former Maineiac Travis Fullerton earned the victory with a 26-save effort.

The loss spoiled a breakout night for Todd Chinova, who went into the holiday respite having been a scratch for more than a month with a nagging upper-body injury.

Chinova scored twice and added an assist for Lewiston on Saturday.

‘I’ve given him a real hard time since he’s been here,” Harding said. “I told him he needs to learn to play hockey the right way. He’s a very high-risk hockey player, and I was concerned when he got hurt it would be back to square one. I think he gets it. He still has a way to go, but he has some skill, and if can understand how to play hockey the right way, he can be a heck of a hockey player.”

In net, after a solid effort in a 3-1 loss to Moncton on Thursday, Peter Delmas struggled to find his way, allowing six goals on 38 shots to suffer the loss.

The Maineiacs actually held a lead late in the second period. Picard-Hooper’s first in the opening period gave the Sea Dogs a 1-0 lead before strikes from Chinova and Michael Ward in the second made it 2-1 Lewiston.

Howes scored with less than three minutes to play in the second, though, to tie things up, and Picard-Hooper put his team in front for good at the 19:24 mark.

Sparling and Tutalo traded goals early in the third, and then the Sea Dogs put it away with goals from Sparling and Sauve.

Chinova made it 6-4 with less than a minute to play in the game.

Lewiston has little time to recover. The Maineiacs face the Acadie-Bathurst Titan this afternoon in Bathurst.
