PORTLAND – June Meredith Miles, 70, beloved wife of Dana Winslow, loving mother to Belinda Ann and Thomas Charles and devoted grandmother to Fallyn Marie, passed away on Dec. 29.
She struggled courageously for many years with breast cancer, lung and vascular disease.
She was born in Auburn, on July 1, 1937, the daughter of Charles and Edith Leavitt.
She married the love of her life, Dana, on June 29, 1957, and they moved to Portland where they lived most of their life together. On June 29, 2007, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their family and friends by their side.
She was a sweet and loving woman. She enjoyed her family life above all else, took great joy in her children and grandchild and was an excellent homemaker.
She was a devoted sister, friend and caretaker to many. In her early years she took pleasure in camping with her family, volunteering her time as a Girl Scout leader and in the Lyseth School library.
She loved traveling abroad and visiting friends in Tennessee. June belonged to various social and service clubs and was active in local area support for the American Cancer Society, the American Lung Association of Maine and the Maine Diabetes Prevention and Control Program.
For many years she volunteered administrative support to her husband for the Portland Lion’s Club Eyeglass Program.
In her later years, she enjoyed reading, watching “her” Boston Red Sox and NASCAR.
She is survived by her husband, Dana W. Miles; her daughter, Belinda A. Miles and her husband, Raymond M. Beland, of Brockton, Mass.; her son, Thomas C. Miles and his companion, Tammy Reynolds and her granddaughter, Fallyn M. Miles, of Portland; her sisters and brothers, Joan Gagnon of Lisbon, Dolores Eastman, Richard Leavitt and Gard Leavitt and his wife, Sandy, of Auburn; as well as many nieces and nephews who also survive her.
