TEMPLE – A Temple man faces additional felony charges after police searched his home Thursday for the second time in less than two weeks.
Daniel S. Williams, 44, of Temple Road, was arrested Thursday on charges of aggravated forgery and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person after Franklin County sheriff’s deputies searched his home.
Williams was arrested on a felony marijuana trafficking charge Dec. 22 when police responded to his home for a domestic disturbance. While there police smelled marijuana and received permission to search the home. They found approximately two pounds of prepackaged marijuana.
Sheriff’s Cpl. Stephen Charles also noticed guns in the home but did not realize that Williams was prohibited from possessing them, said sheriff’s Lt. Niles Yeaton. After records indicated certain conditions were placed on Williams following a charge of trafficking in prison contraband back in the 1980s, Yeaton said another search warrant was obtained.
Police Thursday found three firearms, two long guns and one handgun, as well as two hunting licenses and a usable amount of marijuana, he said. The aggravated forgery charge, he said, stems from the hunting licenses.
When applying for a hunting license, he would have been asked if he was prohibited from possessing firearms, he said.
Williams previously was summoned for unlawful trafficking in marijuana. Both cases remain under investigation, Yeaton said.
Williams was released on $3,000 unsecured bond for the firearms and forgery charges, and scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 25.
