LISBON FALLS – Lisbon Adult Education will take registration for spring classes starting Monday, Jan. 7. Classes are scheduled from Jan. 14 through June.

Career courses will be offered in a variety of subjects. Computer courses include “Introduction to PowerPoint,” which will begin Feb. 4 and meet for six weeks, and “Introduction to Word” starting Feb. 7 and meeting for eight weeks.

An eight-week “Introduction to QuickBooks Pro” course will start Feb. 6. An “Accounting Fundamentals” course will start on Feb. 4 and will meet for eight weeks. A keyboarding class will begin Jan. 30 and a basic computer class will start on Feb. 4.

Two courses will be offered in the electrician training program. “Electricity 1-DC Circuits” will start Thursday, Jan. 31. “Electrical Blueprint Reading” (using TurboCad) will begin Tuesday, Jan. 29. Completion will lead to a certificate accepted by the Maine Electrical Licensing Board. Each electricity course lasts 15 weeks.

The technology coordinator for the Lisbon School Department will present two evening sessions where participants will have the opportunity to get answers to home computer questions. The first session is scheduled for Feb. 7 and the second for Feb. 28.

Lisbon Adult Education and Coastal Enterprises Inc. will offer a daylong program called “Creating Your Business Website” from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29. The workshop will be conducted in a computer lab partnership with the Maine Small Business Development Corp.

Lisbon Adult Education will offer a “Basics of E-Commerce” program from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29. Participants will learn the basics of e-commerce, such as how Web sites and search engines work, how to register a domain name and how a Web site can enhance the overall business model. The workshop is free, but space is limited, and advanced registration is required.

Several enrichment courses will start in January or early February. Yoga classes will begin on Tuesday, Feb. 5, and pilates will start Monday, Jan. 28.

“Intermediate Fly Tying” will meet for five weeks beginning Jan. 14. The class is designed to teach students who already have the basic skills and techniques. A beginner class will be offered again next fall.

Two knitting classes will be held. A beginning knitting class will start on Wednesday, Feb. 6. The class will include the basics of knit and purl and how to make a simple project.

A four-needle mittens class will start on Thursday, Jan. 24. Participants need basic knitting skills only. Students will have a choice of patterns to match their preferences and skill levels. Both classes will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. for five weeks.

An oil painting class will start on Tuesday, Jan. 29, and meet for eight weeks. All skill levels are welcome.

The indoor walking program will start on Tuesday, Jan. 29. The free program is offered at the former Lisbon Elementary School from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesdays ant Thursdays. Advanced registration is not required; sign in at the door. Participants are asked to bring a separate pair of shoes for walking.

A semester-long Italian and Mediterranean cooking series will be offered. Register for each individual night. The first night will be Thursday, Jan. 31, to learn to make risotto. The second night will be Feb. 28 and it will be pasta sauce night.

The Lisbon Book Club, also known as Readers Anonymous, is always open to new members. The group will meet Thursday, Jan. 31, to discuss “Water for Elephants” by Sara Gruen.

Three financial workshops will be offered in January and February. “Strong Women-Powerful Financial Strategies” will be presented Feb. 6l “Planning Your Retirement Paycheck” and “Effective Long-Term Care Planning,” Feb. 13. All financial workshops are free but do require advanced registration.

A family Valentine workshop for children ages 4 through 12 will be held on Monday, Jan. 28.

Academic courses will include “Physics with Lab” and “Algebra I.” Both meet college pre-requisite requirements. An English literature class will be offered for high school diploma credit and a college math refresher course for adults planning to enroll in college programs.

GED testing will be offered from 2:30 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Accommodations are available for those with documented disabilities. A GED prep class will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday evenings.
