BANGOR – Russell G. Field Sr., 88, died unexpectedly Jan. 2 at a Bangor hospital.
He was born July 5, 1919, in Quincy, Mass., the son of the late Elmer D. and Lucy A. (Noyes) Field. He was educated in schools in Wakefield, Mass., and Penobscot. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps at 1131 Company Fort Williams, Portland. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1937 to 1945 and was discharged as chief boatswains mate.
He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge 75 Archon Lodge in East Dixmont. He was a trade steamfitter and a 50-year member of Local 321, Bangor. He enjoyed outdoor sports activities such as hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his beloved sister, Carolyn Hooper of Scarborough, daughter, Carol Gilbert and son, Russell Field Jr. and his wife, Sharyn, all of Orland; stepson, Wayne Grindle and his wife, Anita, of Connecticut; his grandchildren, Dolores “Lori” Foster and her husband, Wayne, of Clifton, Lesley Blair of Bucksport, Honey Jo Seekins of Ellsworth and Russell Field III of Bangor; and great-grandchildren, Todd Foster, Brandon and Bailey Blair, Nathan and Jason Levandoski, Shayla Seekins and Garrett Field.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Lucy; his second wife, Dorothy; and his brothers, Haskell and Lowell.
