Dear Sun Spots: This is my first time writing to you, but I hear from friends of the success they have had through you. Keep up the good work!
I’m looking for a book “Some History of Dead River.” I read the book by Benjamin Fred Safford, a long time ago and would be interested to know if anyone has a copy that they would be willing to part with.
I can be reached at 639-2071 in Phillips. This is a business phone number from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. so if anyone calls and I am not there, please leave your name and number, and I will return your call. Thank you. – No Name, Avon.
Answer: In addition to responses from readers, Sun Spots wonders if you might have checked with any of the local or Lewiston-Auburn used book stores that might be able to assist you?
Consider contacting:
Millview Books, 225 Main Street, Mexico, ME 04257, 364-4901. They are open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Saturday and can also special-order for you. Perhaps they’ll be able to assist you.
Sue and Walt at Artios Books in Auburn. They are located at 180 Turner St. They are open 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m Tuesday through Friday and from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays.
In the meantime, you might also check on eBay or www.amazon.com to see if you can locate a copy of this book. However, please note that Sun Spots has not located anything either on the author or by searching with the book title. Perhaps other readers will recall this book and be able to assist you in your search.
Dear Sun Spots: I have several Virginia picture postcards that are ready to mail to any readers that might like them. If your readers just send me their names and addresses I can mail them to them.
Please write to Ms. Jessie Mitchell, P.O. Box 114, Virginia Beach, VA 23458.
Thank you readers. – Jessie Mitchell, Virginia.
Dear Sun Spots: Why do the three television stations, Channels 6, 8 and 13 have to use 50 percent of the screen to display storm cancellations? Not only do they take up too much space at the bottom, but they also go up both the sides vertically. Wouldn’t a banner be more appealing to viewers? – Curious in Rumford.
Answer: It is possible that it’s a space issue and each of the stations is trying to ensure they get as many cancellations as possible out there for their viewers.
Consider contacting each of the stations to discuss this at: WGME 13, 81 Northport Drive, Portland, ME 04103, 207-797-1313; WMTW-TV, Channel 8, P.O. Box 8, Auburn, ME 04210, 207-782-1800 and WCSHTV6, One Congress Square, Portland, ME 04101, 828-6666.
Dear Sun Spots: I have cones of all colored yarn for a knitting machine. Please contact me at 782-8868. – G.P. Lewiston.
