AUGUSTA – After building a nine-point lead by halftime, Oxford Hills hung on in the final period, when it was held without a field goal, and survived for a 36-31 upset win over the Cony Rams in girls’ basketball action Friday.
It was the first home loss by Cony in several years.
Kari Pelletier and Teira Durgin helped the Vikings get the early jump. A 15-4 run in the second period gave Oxford Hills a 24-15 lead. Pelletier finished with 12 points, while all of Durgin’s eight points came in the first half.
The nine-point cushion held up in the third quarter before Cony made a run in the final period, when the Vikings were held to four free throws.
Rachael Mack led Cony with nine points.
Rangeley 30, Hyde 26
BATH – Rangeley limited Hyde to three points in the final quarter Friday to rally for a 30-26 victory in Western Class D basketball game.
The host Phoenix (2-3) had fought back to take a 23-21 lead entering the final period. Stephanie Urzua led Hyde with 11 points.
Krista Jamison scored a game-high 12 points for Rangeley (3-3), while Chantel Carrier and Allie Hammond chipped in with eight points each.
Rockland 61, Oak Hill 48
WALES – Kelsey Sirois led a balanced attack with 12 points to help Rockland get past Oak Hill 61-48 in girls’ basketball Friday.
Aly Nolan and Corey Picard each added 11 points for Rockland (4-4) while Lindsay Ranquist scored seven and yanked down 10 rebounds.
Emily Sabine led the Raiders (1-7) with 12 points and 12 boards, with Ambyr Provost connecting for 10 points.
Buckfield 67, Hebron 32
BUCKFIELD – Ashlee Hamann and Alyssa Henderson combined for 42 points to lead Buckfield past Hebron 67-32 in girls’ basketball Friday.
Henderson connected on four 3-pointers and finished with 20 points, with Hamann registering a game-high 22 points for the Bucks (6-0). Lindsey Henderson added 15 points. Annie Hart led Hebron (4-1) with 13 points.
Telstar 67, Wiscasset 32
BETHEL – Senior guard Bailey Davis outscored the entire opposing team with 34 points as Telstar stormed off with a 67-32 victory over Wiscasset in MVC girls’ basketball action Friday.
Davis tossed 13 field goals, including six from 3-point range, and a pair of free throws to go along with 10 rebounds for the Rebels (4-2). Senior guard Josie Reiss added 19 points for Telstar.
Senior guard Foxy Buck led the Redskins (0-6) with 13 points.
Mt. Blue 43, Hampden 27
HAMPDEN – Michelle Oswald scored 15 points to help Mt. Blue stave off Hampden 43-27 in girls’ basketball Friday.
Oswald hit all six of her free throws down the stretch and finished nine of 10 from the charity stripe.
Meaghan Robinson added nine points and seven rebounds for the Cougars (2-5).
Hampden was led by Katie Foster who scored eight points.
Mt. Abram 46, Hall-Dale 27
SALEM – Mt. Abram’s constricting full-court press contained Hall-Dale for the first half, and Kenni Norton scored the game-high 16 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, as the Roadrunners (4-2) raced off with a 46-27 victory in a girls’ basketball game Friday night.
The Roadrunners’ defense held the Bulldogs (3-3) to just six points in opening half. Mikayla Burbank had steals and Janessa Thomas pulled down 10 rebounds and scored nine points for Mt. Abram.
Lisbon 53, Carrabec 38
LISBON FALLS – The Lisbon Greyhounds (5-3) used a balanced attack, with three players scoring double-figures, to down the Cobras of Carrabec (1-3) 53-38 in Mountain Valley Conference play Friday evening.
Emily Moore led the way for Lisbon with a game-high 18 points. Christy McAuliffe drained 14 and Sam Purcell scored eight of her 10 in the pivotal third quarter.
She also notched a game-high 12 rebounds.
Erica French and Meghan Murray scored nine points apeice for Carrabec, and Alicha Stoddard knocked down seven points with five boards and four steals.
Madison 48, Livermore Falls 28
MADISON – Madison played a symetrical game, scoring eight and 16 points respectively in the quarters of each half to haul down a 48-28 victory over Livermore Falls in MVC girls’ basketball action Friday.
Senior center Margo Russell notched a game-high 21 points for the Bulldogs (6-0), while senior guard Danielle Hebert recorded five steals and four assists to go along with seven points.
Missy O’Connor was the leading scorer for the Andies (2-5) with nine points on one field goal and seven free throws.
Dirigo 59, Georges Valley 42
DIXFIELD – Sophomore guard Jane Hebert had an outstanding game with 22 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals as Dirigo coasted to a 59-42 triumph over Georges Valley in MVC girls’ basketball action Friday.
Senior forward Carrie Jamison contributed 17 points, while Nikki Kaulback added 10 points and five assists for the Cougars (5-3).
Senior center Ashley Geel led the Buccaneers (3-4) with 10 points.
Monmouth 47, Jay 34
MONMOUTH – Jenn Lola notched 14 points and ripped down 10 rebounds as Monmouth beat Jay 47-34 in a Mountain Valley Conference girls’ basketball game Friday.
Katie Woodman and Moe Beaulieu each chipped in with 10 points for the Mustangs (7-0).
Hillary Deane led Jay (4-3) with 14 points.
Morse 52, EL 43
AUBURN – Jill Henrikson drained 24 points as Morse edged the Red Eddies 52-43 in a tight fourth quarter. Henrickson’s baskets came from all over, with eight at the line and 12 from downtown.
The Shipbuilders’ 11 free-throw points down the stretch solidified the victory.
Edward Little’s Kirsten Prue played well, scoring 18, which included a 3-pointer and five from the line. Alyssa Levesque chipped in with 10, but the Eddies were unable to hold off Morse in the end.
Mountain Valley 57, Boothbay 28
RUMFORD – Vanessa Cayer turned in a dominant perfomance, scoring 22 points while hauling down 12 rebounds, as Mountain Valley cruised to a 57-28 girls’ MVC basketball win over Boothbay on Friday.
Lauren LePage drained three 3-pointers and finished with 11 points while Meagan Maifield added 10 for the Falcons (4-2).
Ali Hartley led the way for the Seahawks with 16 points.
