WASHINGTON, D.C. – Pat Halloran buried seven 3-pointers en route to a career-high 25 points, and Bryan Wholey added 18 points and was named tourney MVP to lead Bates to a 67-59 victory over host Catholic University to win the CUA Classic.
Catholic led by as many as 10 points in the first half, but the Bobcats (6-3) went on a 22-0 run in a span of 7:30 that covered both halves.
Brian Ellis chipped in with eight points and five rebounds for Bates, which has won its last six games after starting the season 0-3.
Women’s basketball
Bates 77, UMF 47
LEWISTON – Bates scored the game’s first seven points and built a 27-point lead in the first half, rolling to a 77-47 victory over Maine-Farmington on Sunday.
Bates received scoring from 14 of its 15 players, led by Val Beckwith and Liz Coffin with 14 points apiece.
The Bobcats (7-3) forced 27 turnovers.
Caitlyn Laflin led UMF (3-6) with 12 points.
Hockey
Maine 4, RPI 2
PORTLAND – Maine bounced back from a lackluster loss to Northeastern and skated to a 4-2 victory over RPI before 6,620 at the Cumberland County Civic Center.
Jeff Marshall scored a shorthanded goal and Billy Ryan added an empty-netter in the third period to seal the victory.
Lem Randall and Wes Clark also scored for the Black Bears (7-9-2). Ben Bishop earned the win with 18 saves.
