Masonic meeting

MECHANIC FALLS – Dwinal Chapter 28 will meet at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at the Masonic Hall, Route 11. Members will observe Landmark and Obligation Night. Women officers are asked to wear a white gown. There will be a 6:30 potluck supper before the meeting.

Members are asked to bring articles for the Love Bags being made for the abused women shelters. They will fill 10 bags after the February meeting. All members of the order are invited.

Firefighters

LEWISTON – The Androscoggin County Firefighters Association will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at 2 College St. A Globe representative will discuss turnout gear.

Grange program

AUBURN – Danville Junction Grange 65 will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, at the hall. State Master James Owens will be present for the purpose of instruction. Members of the granges in Androscoggin County will be special guests. Refreshments will be served at the close of the meeting. All members and guests are welcome.

UCT to meet

LEWISTON – Members of Twin City Council 160, United Commercial Travelers of America, will meet for dinner at 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at Espo’s Trattoria. All members and guests are invited.

Benefit supper

TURNER – A benefit spaghetti supper is planned for the Davis and Birney families, recent fire victims.

The supper will be held from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at the Boofy Quimby Memorial Center, intersection of Route 219 and Quimby Road, North Turner. Donations will be accepted at the door.

Riley Davis, age 7, died due to injuries from the fire and Brandon Birney is still undergoing medical treatment for burns.

A memorial fund has been started at Community Credit Union in Auburn. Make checks payable to Davis/Birney Memorial Fund, C/O Community Credit Union, 40 Stanley St., Auburn, ME 04210.

Pizza sale

LEWISTON – The Lewiston High School Music Association is conducting its annual pizza sale to coincide with Super Bowl weekend.

The association is taking orders for 14-inch pizzas that will be made and delivered on Feb. 2, the day before the Super Bowl. The group is offering cheese pizza and pepperoni pizza. The cost is $6.50 for a cheese pizza and $7 for a pepperoni pizza.

Proceeds from the sale will be used to support the instrumental, string and vocal music programs at Lewiston High School.

Orders for pizzas are being accepted until Friday, Jan. 18, and may be placed by calling Sharon Handy at 784-5595 or e-mailing [email protected].

Singing classes

GARDINER – Singing workshops for women will be offered through SAD 11 Adult Education for four weeks beginning Wednesday, Jan. 16, at the Gardiner Regional Middle School. Women who love to sing will have an opportunity to join the members of Maine-ly Harmony chorus for vocal instruction.

By the end of the sessions, participants will be able to perform a new song in harmony. The 6 to 7 p.m. classes are free. Participants are also invited to stay for the chorus rehearsal. For more information, contact Donna Ryder at 582-5523.

Book fair

LEWISTON – The Vineyard Christian School, 9 Foss Road, will host a book fair from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 1. The fair will feature a special community event with story read-alouds, refreshments and a door prize. For more information, call Deborah at 784-9500.

Bridge winners

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Social Bridge Club winners at the Multi-Purpose Center on Jan. 7 were: first, Marta Clements and Nancy Farmer; second, Les Buzzell and Paul Sherman; third, Cynthia Bonsey and Sue Kaluzynski; fourth, Nancy Lindgren and Mary Leahey; fifth/third in B/first in C, Cynthia and Bill Clifford; second in C, Larry Fortier and Pete Cummings.
