Conservatives and liberals will never see eye to eye. The problem is one of pronouns:

Conservatives believe in “I” and liberals believe in “we.”

The preamble of the Constitution starts off “We the People …” and goes on to say that government should, among other things, “Promote the general welfare …” Our national government was obviously designed and meant to do more things than national defense and the police state.

This country will not last much longer if the “we” people follow the people who are only concerned with themselves. The self-centered, selfish bent on the part of conservatives is driven by greed and self-service at the expense of national unity. Conservatives would destroy this country to satisfy themselves.

Conservatives also want a monolithic nation where everyone holds the same beliefs, and if you don’t believe as they do, then you can “love it or leave it.”

Beliefs are not facts and frequently they are not even true. If people search for the truth, then beliefs must be suspended. Conservatives seem to be incapable of doing that.

Conservatives know what they believe and don’t want their beliefs interfered with by facts or the truth. There is no talking to them or trying to compromise with them. It is their way or the highway.

It has been their way for the past 25 years. It is time to show them the highway.
