RUMFORD – Theresa B. (Bourgea) Mercier, 85, died Saturday, Jan. 5, at her residence on Franklin Street.

She was born in Rumford on Feb. 8, 1922, the daughter of the late Henry and Eve (Fournier) Bourgea. She moved to Mexico as a child and graduated from Mexico High School in 1940 and worked in the Oxford mill until her marriage in Seattle, Wash., Oct. 12, 1945 to Philip J. Mercier, who died Oct. 27, 2005.

She was one of the three original crossing guards in Rumford. She was a communicant of St. Athanasius-St. John Church and a member of the Ladies of Ste. Anne Society.

Survivors include sons, George and wife, Cynthia, of Bowie, Md., Michael and wife, Anne, of Warren, Ore., David and wife, Jane, of Vancouver, Wash., and Peter Mercier of Santa Rosa, Calif.; a daughter, Marie-Elena Jablonski and husband, Walter, of Watertown, Conn.; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Rita Arsenault of Rumford.
